When it comes to 5-star boutique hotels in Paris, The Bel Ami is one of a kind: stunning interiors, service that goes the extra mile. Everything about this boutique hotel is refreshingly different. Welcome to the left bank.

Located in the Saint-Germain-des-Près, where intellectuals and artists have been meeting for decades, the Hotel Bel Ami embraces the rich history of its vibrant neighborhood to create a unique experience for its guests.

Inside the hotel, elegant piece awaits, such as art installations in the form of a solid glass circle that playfully dresses the hotel’s concierge desk.

Public spaces by interior designer Géraldine Prieur
Géraldine Prieur signed with an audacious spirit, Modern Tie and Dye. An eye like a mirror XXXXL circled by chrome, reflected the fibration of the place, the fabrics for the sofa, the armchair, has signed by local editors, like Osborn and Little, one can contemplate the shelves of the great library with a eclectic book collection, or read in the light of one of the gold Attolo de Vico Magistretti.

As you enter by the Bel Ami Bar, two SIlvera bubble armchairs set the tone featuring a decor favoring the wooden alcoves of Macassar Eboni.

The new rooms by interior designer Pascal Allaman
It is to Pascal Allaman that has been entrusted the recent renovations of three of the four floors of the hotel. The decorator has thus designed all the furniture in the rooms : the desk, the bedside tables in natural oak dressed in an orange lacquered glass tray.

The spirit of the rooms is a very graphical concept in reference to the calligraphy and to the former printing company house which now houses the Bel Ami. “I wanted to create an ergonomic space reminiscent of sliding Japanese panels,” specifies Pascal Allaman.

Ikat ethnic patterns (a technique from the Odisha region in India) by Dedar contribute to recapture the avant-garde spirit of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the Fifties. They form a whole with the motifs of the carpet, which are inspired by the paintings of the period, notably those of Suzanne Vignier.

4 artists, 4 universes
Florence Bamberger was inspired by the spirit of this design and the new decoration to create specifically for the spaces two new works of abstract compositions: collage, gouache, and collage in harmony with the brown, blue and white tones of the hotel.

Manuel Merida is one of the South American kinetic artists of the second generation. Through his work, the artist wants to avoid proposing a fixed and singular vision, playing with the variations of the colored material (pigments, sand, coal powder, wood particles, painted metal, etc.) contained in his monochrome.

Ced Vernay is a French artist. He lives and works in Marseille. His technique is that of the dot or pixel, his work is halfway between Roman mosaic and pixel art, a form of contemporary pointillism based on mathematical concepts, distance, visual capacity and image memorization.

Jean-Pierre Bourquin obtained the National Diploma of Fine Arts at the ESADHaR of Rouen in 1974. He then took courses in art and archaeology at Paris 1 – Sorbonne from 1974 to 1978. Painter and engraver, he pursues an artistic adventure and exhibits mainly in France (Paris), China and North America.

Artist Ced Vernay, in Salon 1885
Featuring 2 pieces, named Maria Callas & Jesus After Carnival, Ced Vernay blurs the lines between art and science. With its artwork Ced Vernay places the pixel in the center of his artistic work as a symbol of human imperfection.

To fully apprehend his universe, we must also understand his way of reasoning, a real invitation to explore the right hemisphere of our brain, that of a holistic or global perception of things materialized in his work.

Unlock the left bank
The street in which the hotel is located was formerly the site of the west wing of the Abbey Saint Germain. In the late 14th century, Pope Alexander III entered the monastery using a door situated in what is now the hotel lobby.

Two angels engraved in the stonework of the hotel’s facade are the only remaining signs of this doorway. In the 18th century, the building housed the Imprimerie Nationale state printing works, responsible for printing Parliament’s official documentation.

It is therefore only fitting that the hotel Bel Ami, a hotel whose frontage bears witness to the industrial revolution and its conversion from a former printing works, owes its name to the title of one of the best known works of French literature from the 19th century – ‘Bel Ami’ by Guy de Maupassant.

The Hotel Bel Ami is a mere stone’s throw from the Place Saint-Germain-des-Prés, a few minutes’ walk from ‘Café de Flore’ and the restaurant ‘Les deux Magots’, once frequented by Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Marguerite Duras and their existentialist circle.
