THE HISTORY
In this section different sources were quoted, which were available to the author. Therefore, there may also be repetitions about the historical course of the MOSERHOF. A big thank you also goes to Dr. Helga Hühnel, archivist of the market town Gumpoldskirchen, for providing original sources about the house history of the MOSERHOF in Gumpoldskirchen.

The Moserhof is located in the closed development of the Wiener Straße in the southeastern old settlement area of Gumpoldskirchen at Wienerstraße 53, M O S E R H O F, Freihof. 1437, belonging: 12 pounds Setz.

15TH CENTURY
“First documented mention in 1437 as Freihof. The oldest masonry dates back to the 15th century.” – Federal Monuments Office in 2007. “This house, which was situated with one side to “Merten des Haberschaden” house, was sold in 1437 by Michael HAYMANN to Erhart MAUTNER. From this it came to the Viennese judge Niclas TASCHLER, then to the mayor of Vienna Friedrich Geldrich.”

16TH CENTURY
“From which it was inherited in 1540 by his daughter married to the knight La ßler (Laßlo – Ladislaus) of Edlasperg. At that time belonged to the house a Setz and 3 Joch fields and it served the prince of Austria 5 pf to Christmas and 5 pfenn. to Solstice.

1559 Seaman of Mangern, imperial councillor and toll collector of Ybbs. Rat u. Mauteinnehmer v. Ybbs. 1566 Lang David, probably a Viennese. 1568 Vetterl Josef, Vienna. 1583 Hartmann Stephan, imperial. Bridge master in Vienna. 1592 Schröttl Sebastian, court chamber servant; marries Hartmann’s widow.”

17TH CENTURY
“In 1615, the latter addressed a petition to Emperor Matthias for a Salvaguardia (exemption from levies, authorization for protection, authorization for preservation as a free court), by which his house was exempted from the EINQUARTIERUNG . In return, he undertook to bear all other COMMUNITY CHARGES .

The house was also freed from these by a contract dated 7.12.1622, confirmed in 1624 by Emperor Ferdinand II. In the contract it was said that the people of Gumpoldskirchen had freed Moser’s house from all burdens, because during the time of the Rebellion (1619,1621) it had given them the GEMEINDEWEIN, which amounted to a large sum, and then kept their vehicles and a large amount of cash in its house in Vienna.

Then follows the contract in the wording according to which Moser pays for the liberation once and for all 250 fl (about 125 buckets of wine) and leaves to the municipality his GRUNDBUCH”.

1622: TO THANK THE FAITHFUL HELPER.
“On December 7, DANIEL MOSER(1570 – 1639), highly meritorious mayor of the city of Vienna, concludes a contract with the judge and council by which his house in Gumpoldskirchen – Wiener Strasse 53 – which he bought in 1613, is freed from all civic burdens (taxes, facilities, quartering, etc.).

Moser was also allowed to store must and wine in his cellar for as long as he wished, but he was not allowed to give away any goods. Emperor Ferdinand II (* July 9, 1578 in Graz; † February 15, 1637 in Vienna) confirms the exemption on January 4, 1624. The Freihof remains in the possession of the Moser family until 1808.

Daniel Moser was, in contrast to many contemporaries, a man loyal to the emperor. As mayor of Vienna for many years, he contributed much to the re-Catholicization of the city.

When Heinrich Matthias von Thurn moved against Vienna with the Bohemian and Hungarian rebels in 1619, he saved the situation for the hard-pressed Emperor Matthias (* February 24, 1557 in Vienna; † March 20, 1619 ibid.) through clever measures.

In that and the following year he saved Gumpoldskirchen from economic ruin by storing the wine, the goods and the cash of the municipality in one of his Viennese houses, thus preventing the Hungarian and Bohemian rebels from seizing it. Daniel Moser’s coat of arms can still be seen today on the façade of his former Freihof.”

18TH – 20TH CENTURY
“The house now remains in the possession of the Moser family until 1808. – From 1746 to 1790 Maria Anna von Schick, née Moser, is named as the owner. A letter of guarantee on the house for Mrs. von Schick dates from 1754.

In 1755 the court commission investigates who has to pay the land plant according to the new law, the respective owner or the magistrate, in that the latter had taken everything on himself against 250 fl and the land register, where it also remained. In 1776 there was a dispute about the grazing rights of the house.

In 1808 the house was owned by a certain Grünfeld, from whom it was bought in the same year by Andreas R i e g e r, to whom the magistrate confirmed the freedoms. The contract stipulated that he would continue to pay the house tax of 9 fl 30 kr as before. (This Andreas Rieger e r s c h o ß l 8 0 9 on the fire station a Frenchman in the Neustiftgasse, whereupon it came to the heavy measures against the market.

In 1832, however, Rieger complained that the magistrate had been collecting the house tax from him for several years. This had happened because the contract of 1808 had not been approved by the higher authority. Since the approval took place in 1834 , Rieger received his tax back since 1832, but in the present value.

Finally a settlement was reached, according to which the tax scale was moderately reduced. This settlement was entered in the land register of the Guntramsdorf dominion. The municipality had also tried to cancel all earlier agreements by paying back the 250 fl to Rieder. Of course, he did not accept this, “because 250 fl in 1622 are now probably several thousand”.

In 1850 the widow Barbara Rieger is in possession of the house. She had promised her son Andreas (according to his information) the assignment of the house; but the judge Johann Baumgartner had cheated this and had taken aside the already drawn up contract.

This younger Rieger owned house No. 238 (Kirchenplatz 1) and was married to the widow of Leopold Nöst (house No. 73, Wienerstraße 59). 1870 Huber Michael. 1882 Huber Theresia. 1950 Weiß Ferdinand, butcher.” – see preparation of the house history by Hand Kopf (school director) from the year 1953

GUMPOLDSKIRCHEN
Gumpoldskirchen is in the tourism region Wienerwald. The wine-growing area in and around Gumpoldskirchen is called Thermenregion.

The village borders on the municipalities of Guntramsdorf, Gaaden, Pfaffstätten and Traiskirchen. The municipal area extends from the flat Vienna Basin to the forest areas of the Anninger, which already belongs to the Vienna Woods.

Gumpoldskirchen offers fantastic opportunities for sporting activities and unforgettable experiences all year round – and the choice is very wide: golfing, hiking, Nordic walking, mountain biking or simply leisurely cycling.

Gumpoldskirchen has been famous for its winemaking tradition since the late 19th century. The village belongs to the wine-growing region Thermenregion. The most famous grape varieties that are vinified here with much love and tradition are the Zierfandler, the Rotgipfler, the Frührote, the Grüner Veltliner and the Neuburger.

One of the oldest wineries in Austria is the Freigut Thallern, registered as a locality (village), which has been farmed continuously since 1141 by the Cistercians of Heiligenkreuz Abbey. Although much smaller, the Stift Klosterneuburg winery – the oldest winery in Austria – also has acreage in Gumpoldskirchen.

WINE TOURS
The winegrowers of the region can build on a great winegrowing tradition and have also committed themselves to a highly modern style of winemaking – with close-to-nature vineyard care, yield limitation, careful selection of the grapes and cautious aging of the wines.

The wines of the Thermenregion therefore stand for finesse and elegance, complexity and complexity. They animate, are fun to drink and are excellent food companions. We organize for you the Tour-de-Vin through the wine-growing region Thermenregion Wienerwald.

From classic dry white wines, which combine freshness and fruitiness, to powerful premium wines, the winegrowers of the thermal region offer the connoisseur a wide range of delightful wines.

In particular, it was the leading white varieties Zierfandler and Rotgipfler, with their individuality, longevity and complexity, that played a decisive role in shaping the international reputation of the winegrowing region.

Zierfandler or Spätrot is an autochthonous white wine variety from Austria, which is grown almost exclusively in the Austrian winegrowing region Thermenregion around Gumpoldskirchen.

The red wines of the Thermenregion present themselves in classic elegance, which find optimal conditions on the lime and stone-rich black earth soils. The St. Laurent, which is very important in the Thermenregion, and the internationally widespread Pinot Noir show the potential for absolute top wines by combining finesse, elegance and complexity in a unique way.

The good wine fertilizes the culinary offer of the thermal region excellently. You can convince yourself of this also and especially at the wine taverns in the Thermenregion.

In the centers of Heurigen culture – such as Baden, Mödling, Gumpoldskirchen, Guntramsdorf, Perchtoldsdorf, Pfaffstätten, Sooß, Tattendorf or Traiskirchen – guests are offered not only wines but also a variety of dishes typical of the region.

Not only in the culinary accompaniment to the perfect wine, but also in the cheerful celebration, people in the thermal region like to orient themselves consistently to the traditional.

GOLF
Outside the gates of Vienna, some of the most beautiful golf courses in Austria present themselves to the demanding golfer. The Colony Club Gutenhof, Himberg can be reached from the Hotel Landhaus Moserhof in just 15 minutes. There you will find Austria’s first 36-hole course: the COLONY CLUB GUTENHOF – undoubtedly the flagship of Austrian golf.

Cycling through lush, fragrant, fresh forests, looking into the centuries-old vineyards and enjoying the best and mostly excellent Austrian wines as a highlight.

The hilly area of the WIENERWALD makes mountain biker and cyclist hearts beat faster! In recent years, for example, an impressive network of routes has been created in the western Vienna Woods, which is constantly being expanded.

Whether as a day trip or for a cycling vacation lasting several days, in addition to the easy to challenging mountain bike trails, numerous regional restaurants (Heurigen) and inns attract visitors.

If you want to experience the Vienna Woods on an e-mountain bike with a certified mountain bike guide and get to know the most beautiful trails, the guided e-mountain bike tours are just right for you.

No matter what your ability, fitness or riding technique, an e-mountain bike tour in the unique biosphere park is always a hit. An enjoyable stop at one of the traditional inns and wine taverns in the Wienerwald region is naturally included in a guided e-mountain bike tour.

These enjoyment tours are offered at the Anninger with starting point in Gumpoldskirchen. In the Mountain Bike Area Anninger you will find an almost Mediterranean flair, while the tours in the Mountain Bike Area Wienerwald Nord score with views of the metropolis Vienna and the nature experience in old beech forests.

ALPACA & LLAMA HIKING
Hiking with alpacas and llamas or simply enjoy an alpaca and llama experience without hiking, spend time with the animals. This is a leisurely hike with alpacas and llamas to the Eichkogel. The starting point is near Panorama Restaurant, on the wine road from Gumpoldskirchen towards Mödling near Vienna.

HOLY CROSS MONASTERY
Heiligenkreuz Abbey is a Cistercian abbey near Heiligenkreuz in the Vienna Woods. It has existed without interruption since its founding in 1133 and is thus – after Rein Abbey – the world’s second oldest Cistercian monastery in continuous existence since its founding.

Here we recommend a guided tour of the impressive Heiligenkreuz Abbey. You can feel the very special charm in the monastery of Heiligenkreuz when you listen to the Gregorian chants of the monks in the monastery.

MYTH MARLING
Picturesquely nestled in the Vienna Woods, the small village of Mayerling offers more than just an impressive landscape – it is also steeped in history. For it was precisely there, where the church of the Carmel monastery stands today, that Crown Prince Rudolf and Mary Vetsera met their deaths on January 30, 1889.
