The Goring stands out from the crowd as London’s last family-owned luxury hotel, with over a hundred years of passion for hospitality and commitment to service. Our staff are trained to the highest standards of hospitality – always retaining a timely touch of fun.

At The Goring, we love to indulge our guests and make them feel at home, and after 108 years, we still continue to surprise and delight even the most frequent of guests.

Impeccably English and perfectly individual, The Goring features 69 sumptuous suites and rooms, each uniquely decorated with the finest furnishings. As the last remaining family-owned luxury hotel in London, it is renowned for its warm, intimate atmosphere and personalised service.

Located in Belgravia – one of the most exclusive and elegant areas in central London – it is perfectly placed for spectacular sights and style. The iconic walls of Buckingham Palace border the district and nearby Knightsbridge, Mayfair and Sloane Street make for a fashionable stay.

Great service is not about awards, but it is always a delight when The Goring’s staff are honoured for their hard work, commitment and generosity. The hotel continues to be recognised and awarded in the UK and internationally.

THE HISTORY
Built by Jeremy Goring’s great-grandfather Otto in 1910, The Goring has been lovingly run by the Goring family since its inception. A visionary, Otto Goring saw great promise in a plot of land situated at the Buckingham Palace end of what today is known as Beeston Place.

After removing a public house and several cottages, the path was laid clear for the last grand hotel of the Edwardian era – The Goring. Opened on the 2nd March 1910 this historic hotel was finally complete, along with en suite facilities and central heating in each and every bedroom – widely believed to be a world first.

A number of historic events have taken place at The Goring over the last 110 years. The Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces was based at the hotel during World War I.

Winston Churchill held meetings with allied leaders in the Silver Room during World War II, while the Polish army in exile was based upstairs. In between all that, every reigning Monarch and serving Prime Minister has been welcomed into the hotel since 1910. And of course there have been all sorts of other historic events where The Goring has been privileged to assist.

Today, The Goring remains a favourite address and hidden gem for anyone seeking out that impeccably English luxury hotel in the centre of London. Through four generations of the Goring family, the hotel has come to deliver some of the finest personal service in the world.

This world class service is set against the elegant backdrop of the rest of the hotel. From the Linley designed Dining Room celebrating the very best of British food, to the artistry of the hand-woven Gainsborough Silks which adorn the walls so gracefully, The Goring is a wonder to behold.

The inside of the hotel is beautifully enhanced by The Goring Gardens – one of the largest private gardens in the capital. The Gardens provide guests with the perfect setting to enjoy the award-winning afternoon tea and The Goring is proud to be leading the way in restoring this wonderfully English pastime to popularity once again.

With only 69 luxurious suites and rooms, The Goring is affectionately known as a “Baby Grand”. It is the finest of traditional hotels in the perfect location, but with the most intimate of atmospheres and personalised attention.

ROYAL WARRANT
The closest hotel to Buckingham Palace, The Goring has been a firm Royal favourite for many years, since it first opened its doors. The coronations of George VI and Her Majesty The Queen saw the hotel filled with royalty attending these great occasions from all over the world.

The Queen Mother also famously enjoyed Eggs Drumkilbo – a lobster and egg-based dish that remains one of the most popular dishes in The Dining Room.

In 1990, the late George Goring accepted an O.B.E. from Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace for ‘services to the hotel industry’. This was followed by the appointment of a Royal Warrant to The Goring in 2013 – the only hotel to have been awarded a Royal Warrant for hospitality services.

Royal Warrants of Appointment are a mark of recognition to those who supply goods or services to the Households of Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh or His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

THE GORING GARDEN
Those seeking harmony and botanical beauty need look no further than The Goring Garden, our exquisite floral oasis is perfect for retreating from the hubbub of London.

The Goring Garden is one of the finest – and largest – private gardens in London. Harmonising the refreshing tranquillity of open green space with the intimacy of a secret garden; pristinely snow-topped in winter and delicately scented during the warmer months,

The Goring Garden is a simply delightful secret haven. Many of the bedrooms and suites look out over the manicured grass and guests are encouraged to relax with a good book and a cup of tea or to sip something cool in the summer sun.

For a unique event the largest of our private dining rooms – the aptly named Garden Room – joins seamlessly with the outdoors through an elegant glass conservatory.

A complete redesign of the garden space in 2019 saw more than one hundred herbs planted in the garden to create home-made botanical infusions for our cocktails and to provide the freshest flavours and flowers to our food. The Goring Garden truly is one of London’s most beautiful hidden hideaways.

BAR-BAA-RA THE GORING SHEEP
The Goring sheep have become as iconic as the hotel itself. Here is a little history on how they came to be…Guests used to remark to the late George Goring that they did not feel as if they were in London when they stayed at The Goring, but rather it had the peace and calm of a country hotel – due to the beautiful garden and the very quiet location in Belgravia.

So one day, when he was driving through Devon, Mr Goring came across the workshop of a gentleman who made the most engaging wooden sheep with real sheepskin fur. He bought one and took it back to The Goring, as he thought it really brought the country feel of the hotel to life. The guests loved it – and he subsequently commissioned him to make more and more.

When guests visit The Goring today, they will be able to see some of these famous sheep dotted about the hotel and on each bed, ready to welcome guests to The Goring.

SUITES
The Goring has some of the finest luxury suites in London. Classic design and up-to-the-minute innovations combine seamlessly with the charm and elegance of English heritage in the hotel’s suites, each one individually designed by one of a number of renowned British designers. The Goring footmen are on-hand to assist guests during their time at the hotel – a true indulgence.

THE ROYAL SUITE
This much sought after one bedroom penthouse suite has been designed by much acclaimed and award-winning designer Russell Sage and has a marvellous balcony overlooking The Goring Gardens.

Take the lift from The Goring’s Front Hall up to the fifth floor where a footman is waiting to unpack your luggage as you make yourself at home. Sip a welcome drink in the sitting room, where there’s plenty of space to kick back and relax.

This welcoming atmosphere comes in part from the hand-picked antiques including Georgian glassware and decanters as well as a unique collection of royal artefacts, from handwritten letters and stationery to military regalia.

The most astonishing piece has to be a life-size portrait of Her Majesty Queen Victoria which is in the double shower of the master bathroom – protected by aircraft safety glass, of course.

The walls of the master bedroom are lined with the same beautiful silk that graced the First Class Dining Room of RMS Titanic 1912, whilst the silk in the bathroom is a match for that which adorns The Throne Room in Buckingham Palace.

Guests enjoy a number of personal touches such as a fully stocked bar, fresh fruit, beautiful flowers and delicious handmade chocolates. Depending on your choice of transport, guests are offered either complimentary London airport transfers or car parking in The Mews for the duration of your stay.

And with access to a Goring footman whilst at the hotel, guests can enjoy this personal piece of heaven among the Belgravia rooftops. The Royal Suite is perfect for peaceful stays or entertaining guests and connects to a double bedroom making it ideal for families.

BELGRAVIA ONE-BEDROOM SUITE
Prepare to make yourself at home. Internationally acclaimed British designer Russell Sage had six historic silks rewoven by The Gainsborough Silk Company for the walls of The Belgravia Suites, originally these silks were from the British Embassy in Paris, The Music Room at London’s Lancaster House and Bute House in Edinburgh, the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland.

The closer you look the more you will discover, each Belgravia Suite has an entrance hall leading to an elegant sitting room where you will find a handsome marble fireplace and light streaming in onto deep comfortable sofas.

As you would expect the well-proportioned bedrooms are exquisite with hand-made furniture in birds-eye maple, mahogany and walnut – all bespoke of course. The large marble bathrooms have separate walk-in showers and some have flat-screen TVs.

Suite guests are treated to all The Goring has to offer including service from the hotel’s magnificent scarlet coated footmen and an in-room cocktail service at cocktail o’clock each evening.

Situated in the heart of the Grosvenor Belgravia estate, Elizabeth Street provides the perfect meeting place. Although it is situated in the middle of the bustling and vibrant capital, the street still retains its village ambiance, enhanced by the new wide tree planted pavements.

The stylish Victorian street with its beautiful shop fronts accommodates a wide array of specialist independent retailers, ranging from world-renowned fashion designers to charming, smaller boutiques.

MOTCOMB STREET
With its cobbled streets, pretty courtyards and pleasant low-level Georgian architecture, Motcomb Street is home to high end specialist retailers in fashion, art and antiques. You can see why this area is affectionately referred to as “the village”. Once your shopping day is over, you can be pampered in one of the boutique beauty and hair salons – or take a short stroll back to The Goring to rest your feet.

KNIGHTSBRIDGE
There are very few places globally that exude exclusivity, prestige, glamour and opulence as strongly as London’s Knightsbridge. Knightsbridge is home to London’s best loved flagship stores, including Harrods and Harvey Nichols.

Having kept in its original form since the early 1900s, the handsome façade of the illustrious Harrods store has the most striking visual presence, making it internationally recognised and an unforgettable shopping experience.

BURLINGTON ARCADE
Burlington Arcade was the world’s first shopping arcade, opened in 1819 to great acclaim. Home to some of the finest British and European boutiques, it is recognised as a historic and architectural masterpiece.

The arcade is patrolled by Beadles in traditional uniforms including top hats and frockcoats. The original beadles were all former members of Lord George Cavendish’s regiment, the 10th Hussars.

REGENT STREET AND CARNABY STREET
The instantly recognisable proud Georgian architecture of Regent Street, which rivals the eminent Champ-Elysées, makes it a special shopping experience. Lying adjacent to this architectural masterpiece, is the world famous Carnaby Street.

Once you step out of the lavish Liberty store, you are greeted with the iconic ‘Carnaby Street’ arches. Carnaby Street has a certain 1960s style quirkiness to it with its cheerful cobbled streets and wide range of fashion and lifestyle stores.

FOOD & DRINK
The London food scene is an exciting riot of flavours and experiences. In addition to the Michelin-starred British food served in our elegant Dining Room, London is home to some of the finest restaurants in the world, such as fellow Relais & Châteaux members Hibiscus and Le Gavroche.

With an unstoppable trend for street food, brilliant artisan markets and fabulous bars – there’s plenty to satisfy the hungriest of foodies.

ZUMA
Zuma is globally renowned for its contemporary Japanese cuisine, with a sophisticated twist on the traditional Japanese izakaya style of informal eating and drinking. Located in Knightsbridge, Zuma is just a short taxi ride from The Goring. The restaurant’s open plan setting features a sushi counter and rotaba grill – perfect for watching the chefs in action.

SKETCH
Conceived by Mourad “Momo” Mazouz and French master chef Pierre Gagnaire, Michelin-starred Sketch’s innovative dining experience combines food, art and music. Located over two expansive floors of a converted 18th century building, this restaurant is a must-see for those who like something a little more imaginative…

HAKKASAN
Combining modern Cantonese cuisine with world-class mixology, Hakkasan is renowned for its intimate, artistically-lit décor as much as its flavourful Asian dishes. The Michelin starred restaurant has 12 locations worldwide, with two here in London – Mayfair and Hanway Place.

GYMKHANA
Michelin-starred Gymkhana is inspired by Colonial Indian gymkhana clubs, set up by the British Raj, where members of high society came to socialise, dine, drink and play sport. Find your inner Maharaja while feasting on modern Indian cuisine.

MILK & HONEY
Still voted as one of the best cocktail bars in the world, this Soho members’ bar also welcomes non-members for lounge drinking cocktails by candlelight. With bars across three-floors, Milk & Honey’s team of expert mixologists impress even the most discerning of drinkers.

LE GAVROCHE
Le Gavroche was the first UK restaurant to be awarded one, two and three Michelin stars. The Chef de Cuisine is Michel Roux Jr, who took over the reins from his father, Albert, in 1991. The Relais & Châteaux restaurant is renowned for its classical French dishes with a modern, creative twist. It takes its name from the character Gavroche in Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables.
