The old city of Akko captivated us with its charm. The story of the city, which started thousands of years ago. A peninsula enclosed by ancient walls and the blue sea surrounding it and within, an endless range of colors, smells and tastes: the picturesque fishermen’s port, an authentic market, superb chef restaurants all serving dishes made from the local fish and produce.

We, Tamar and Meir, have found life to be enthralling, authentic and colorful in Akko. A tapestry of old and new, East and West, Land and Sea. We fell in love with this magical city and we invite you to stay with us for a different experience.

As you wander through the alleys and stay in our suites, you’ll be joining all those who inhabited Akko before you: Crusaders, Mamelukes, Ottomans, Jews, Christians, Muslims and Bahais, members of all religions and faiths who have lived in Akko throughout history.

Get lost in the allies, sip bitter coffee in one of the local cafés, smoke a hookah at Han A-Shwarda, eat Humus, pamper yourselves at the Turkish Bath, eat at one of the fine restaurants the old city hosts, walk along the sea at sunset and visit the unique archeological sites.

And when you are ready for a break, relax in your indulging suite or on the Roof-Top-Terrace, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Whether you are a couple on a romantic retreat, a family, a small group or on a business trip, we have an unforgettable place to offer you.

Leave you high heels at home, because Akko like so many old cities is abundant with stairs and cobblestone allies. Due to the constrictions of preservation, most of our suites and our Roof-Top-Terrace are accessible only by stairs.

The suites are scattered along the picturesque allies of the old city, and still just a short walking distance for one another. The Old City of Akko is so small that everything is close by.

A short walk will lead you to the main building, which houses the Reception, Lobby and the Roof-Terrace, where breakfast is served daily. A great spot to relax with the exquisite view of the Mediterranean Sea and the old city walls.

We’d love to help make your stay in Akko pleasant and memorable. We can assist with recommendations of the sites, the beaches, the museums, restaurants, festivals, cultural events and places of interest in the city and the area.

What to do in Akko
Come and meet and fall in love with the magic of one of the world’s oldest port cities – history, culinary, hammam or culture – we will be happy to plan your journey in Akko according to what interests you.

The Turkish bazaar in Akko
Acre has been completely abandoned for 450 years, since 1291 when the Crusaders were expelled. After this period, a new city was built over the remains of the Crusader city.

The construction was started by a Bedouin ruler, Dahar al-Omar (1775-1750), who established an independent kingdom in the Galilee and made Acre it’s capital.

He renewed the city walls, cleaned the harbor and built his own palace in the city. In 1775, an Egyptian Ottoman officer named Ahmed al-Jazar besieged Acre and executed Dahar al-Omar as a rebel under Ottoman rule.

Ahmed al-Jazar continued Dahar al-Omar’s enterprise and established Acre as a major trading town of the entire region. During his time, many mosques, baths (hammams), khans and bazaars were built in the city to serve the citizens.

The Turkish bazaar was built in the late 18th century as an urban market for the service of the local population. The market was abandoned in 1948 with the occupation of the Old City by the IDF and was recently opened as a bazaar for artisans and craftsmanship.

Today, there are small shops in the bazaar that specialize in selling souvenirs and art objects to tourists.

Couples Vacation in Akotika
Whether you are a couple on a romantic retreat, a family, a small group or on a business trip, we have an unforgettable place to offer you. Leave you high heels at home, because Akko like so many old cities is abundant with stairs and cobblestone allies.

Due to the constrictions of preservation, most of our suites and our Roof-Top-Terrace are accessible by stairs only. Order wine or a beer, relax and enjoy the Roof-Top Terrace of the main building which is open to all our guests overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.

We entertain small exclusive events: Chef dinners, local cuisine prepared by local women, live music, private breakfast or brunch on the Roof-Top-Terrace, prior reservation necessary.

Hamam al- Basha
The Turkish bath’s construction was part of the transformation of Acre during the Ottoman Period from a small fishing village into a teeming port city and a major construction and trade center. The Hamam features three main sections:

  • The summer dressing room – this is the first room you will enter from the courtyard.
  • The four intermediary rooms, which are located between the cold room and the hot room – the lukewarm rooms – served as various treatment and activity rooms
  • The hot room – the hot room is the heart of the hamam – the steam room, which housed a heated pool and a steam bath.

The Knights’ Kingdom
During this tour, each visitor receives a headset, in one of 10 different languages, with which to operate the displays.

During the day, visit the streets, chapel, stores and and an arts and crafts market, featuring artisans from the Crusades era, offering their wares: blacksmiths, glass blowers, potters, weavers, embroiderers, leather craftsmen, basket weavers, perfume and oil craftsmen, etc.

The Templars’ Tunnel

The Templars were a military-monastic order who – in the name of the pope – aided pilgrims and the ailing coming from Europe to visit the holy sites of the Land of Israel. The tunnel is 150 meters long and it extends from the Templars fortress in the west to the city’s port in the east.

The tunnel was discovered in 1994. The Acre Development Company, in collaboration with the Antiquities Authority, cleared away the dirt and made the tunnel available to visitors.

The Bahai Gardens

A wonderful place to relax, an experience of man-made beauty. In the garden of Akko you will see the use of running water, the garden design in lovely geometric shapes inspired by the art of the Persian gardens and light and shadow games to complete the creation.

Bahjí was where Bahá’u’llah, the prophet who founded the Baha’i religion, lived for the last 12 years of his life. It is also where he was buried after his death, hence the sanctity of the site for Baha’i followers the world over. There are two historical structures at the site: the Manor and the Shrine of Bahá’u’lláh.

Bahá’u’llah was born in Iran in 1817. He belonged to an esteemed noble family. His father was a minister in the Sheikh of Iran’s court. From an early age, Bahá’u’llah was renowned for his wisdom and knowledge.

He left the King’s court and ministers behind and instead, spent his time aiding the poor, the oppressed and the ailing of society. He quickly became known as the defender of justice.
