Set in the heart of the picturesque Swiss city of Geneva, the Hotel d’Angleterre combines the joys of a central location – the complimentary boat shuttle service leaves from just outside the hotel – with the relaxing atmosphere of a lakeside retreat.

Elegantly poised at the edge of Lake Leman with magnificent views of the famous Jet d’Eau and Mont Blanc, this beautiful boutique hotel showcases British charm and character with the finest of Swiss hospitality.

Built in 1872, the hotel is a true city landmark, with an impressive facade designed by celebrated architect Anthony Krafft.

Not only is Hotel d’Angleterre famous for its refined style and generous service, but our pedigree means we are also proud to have some of the longest-serving members of staff of any hotel; one member of our concierge team was with us for 42 years

The Hotel d’Angleterre is a proud part of the family-owned and run Red Carnation Collection and member of the Leading Hotels of the World. We are deeply proud of the hotel’s history, both as one of the first hotels in Geneva, and as the city’s only luxury boutique hotel.

An array of tempting treats awaits you, including delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and sweet homemade pastries, all accompanied by an extensive tea menu or a glass of Champagne to enhance the occasion.

Traditional Afternoon Tea

Your tea stand will be accompanied by a choice of refreshing Betjeman and Barton teas inspired by different regions of the world, from India and China to Great Britain and South Africa, or perhaps add a glass of Ruinart Champagne for an extra-special experience.

Afternoon Tea parties
Afternoon Tea is very popular for celebrations, especially for those hosting a baby shower, birthday or hen party. Where better to celebrate than opposite the graceful Jet d’Eau, in the magnificent surroundings of Hotel d’Angleterre?

If you are planning a special theme for your event, please let us know and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Carefully curated
Geneva is surrounded by vineyards. With an annual production of around 87 million litres, the canton is Switzerland’s third-largest wine producer, and an understanding of and enthusiasm for wine is part of our local heritage.

With over 225 bins in our cellar, Landry Tissot, our Master Sommelier has created an elegant and stylish wine list that fully lives up to this tradition.

Noted for its extraordinary range and breadth, our wine-loving diners certainly find their favourite bottles, but are equally delighted to be introduced to new discoveries from the list.

If you are curious and ready for new experiences, Landry will be happy to open a few of her more esoteric bottles, such as Canadian or Indian wine.

The Cigar Lounge
The exclusive Cigar Lounge in our famous Leopard Bar is lauded by guests and local cigar aficionados alike due to its rich ambience and world-class cigar menu.

Exuding classic charm and polished refinement, it boasts a cutting-edge air-flow extraction system in the floor and the ceiling’s wooden panelling, to ensure relaxation in total comfort.

This is an intimate setting brimming with unique features, stylish furnishing and original artwork. Food is not permitted, however, guests may bring beverages into the Cigar Lounge.

Set for success
A successful event requires a suitably impressive and remarkable venue – and Hotel d’Angleterre really fits the bill. Overlooking the sparkling waters of Lake Geneva and with grand interiors, exceptional service and a choice of rooms to suit your requirements, the stage is set for success.

Our history runs deep. Even our meeting spaces have incredible stories to tell, from the blue-walled “Louise”, named after Princess Louise who fell in love right here with her Belgian teacher and renounced her Austrian title, to the classic, gentlemen’s club-like Cigar Lounge, or the vibrant Leopard Lounge.

The Salon Parquet, meanwhile, is an elegant room with original 19th century flooring and golden chandeliers, with the fittingly awe-inspiring backdrop of the lake just outside.

With magnificent views of the Jet d’Eau
Set in the heart of the picturesque Swiss city of Geneva, the hotel combines the joys of a central location – the complimentary boat shuttle service leaves from just outside the hotel – with the relaxing atmosphere of a lakeside retreat.

If you are travelling to Geneva by car and would like directions to Quai du Mont Blanc, please contact us and we can help you with exact directions and information on nearby street parking or our Valet service.

The Place du Molard
The Place du Molard is also well worth a visit. In the heart of Geneva’s left bank, surrounded by a rich array of department stores, luxury boutiques and restaurants, it has a lovely octagonal fountain with a marble obelisk dating from 1771, and an impressive tower which was originally part of the city’s defensive wall.

Saint Peter’s Cathedral
Saint Peter’s Cathedral, on top of the hill at the centre of the old town, is an impressive reminder of Geneva’s defiant Protestant stand during the reformation. Dating right back to 1160 it has a mighty tower from which you can enjoy a fabulous panoramic view of the city and the lake.

Flanked by a patchwork of vineyards
Geneva is flanked by a patchwork of vineyards, patterned with vines in smart, serried ranks. Most of these farms are centuries-old, family-run enterprises, and they produce some of the finest wine in Europe.

Indeed, the Canton of Geneva produces Switzerland’s third largest wine output, and consequently, guests at Hotel d’Angleterre are never far from an excellent glass of something special. Here, we journey to the most beautiful vineyards near Geneva, each less than an hour’s drive from the hotel.

Satigny
At first glance, it’s a sleepy patch of Switzerland, its vast sweeps of cultivated land dotted with pretty farmhouses. But, for those in the know, Satigny is the country’s largest wine-making municipality and home to several of the most celebrated vineyards near Geneva.

Make sure to visit Domain du Paradis. This sophisticated vineyard has a beautiful vaulted wine cellar, where introductory tastings offer an excellent initial foray into the area’s best grapes.

La Cave de Genève
Known the world over for its quality wine and award-winning bottles, La Cave de Genève is another exceptional vineyard near Geneva. Its dedicated team continues to set the benchmark for not only regional wines, but for Swiss wines, too.

Domaine de Trois Etoiles
Recognised for its distinctive contribution to L’Espirit de Genève—a red wine blended from regional grapes personally selected by the winemaker. Each of the 19 local producers of L’Espirit de Genève offers a slightly different variation, and the blend from this vineyard is well worth sampling.

Russin Vineyard
Less than an hour from Satigny, the verdant pastures of Russin await—and so does Domaine des Molards. Experts in the field, the Desbaillet family have been producing wine near Geneva for over 650 years and their legendary vineyard welcomes visitors to an annual show for the Caves Ouvertes.

This festival is the one day of the year whereby the picturesque vineyards near Geneva throw open their doors and invite oenophiles to taste the year’s vintage, alongside more mature wines.

Just large enough to accommodate six guests, Domaine des Molards’ unique bar area provides fantastic tastings year-round. Enter a converted 11,000-litre barrel for wonderful wines and fondue.

Terraced Vineyards – Jussy
Jussy served as a vassal town of the Bishop of Geneva in the Middle Ages, and Château Du Crest was constructed on his land around 1220. This impressive castle has a long and chequered past, from feudal conflicts to noble visits, to falling to ruin in the 16th century.

The estate was restored to its original grandeur in 1624 when it came under the possession of Jacques Micheli. Generations down the line, his family and the spectacular farmlands surrounding the castle yield some of the best wine in Geneva.

Switzerland’s reserves

Oenophiles at Hotel d’Angleterre can join professional sommelier Landry Tissot for an introduction to Switzerland’s signature reserves. With a plentiful cellar, stacked with carefully curated bottles, Landry’s wine list offers a taste of the very finest vintages from across the country.
