The design and concept of the rooms has been borne by the Majorcan Interior designer Marga Rotger. The simple lines of the facade with the main features of rationalist style were determining factors while creating the interior design project. A style in simple shapes that occur in the absence of ornamentation.

The combination of premium quality materials like oak wood, stone, glass and black lacquered iron creates a warm atmosphere that is breathed in every corner of the hotel.

The careful indirect lighting favours the feeling of relaxation and well-being that is transmitted to the client. Spaces with neutral colors and splashes of black colour to give a touch of elegance and sobriety.

THE CUIT RESTAURANT
On the 8th floor of NAKAR Hotel is situated the CUIT Bar and Restaurant, where one can experience the wonders and talent of the well renowned mallorcan chef Miquel Calent.

One of the first things you’ll notice is its A-MAZING views over the city, Palma’s bay and the Cathedral. If we say it’s stunning it actually is an understatement, which is why it is so important for you to come visit CUIT if you’re staying at Nakar or if you’re visiting Palma or living in this beautiful city.

The CUIT Restaurant is a place to socialize and interact. The menu is based on an artisan and seasonal cuisine, inspired by the Mallorcan gastronomic tradition, very Mediterranean and reformulated with new trends looking for the best seasonal products that the island can offer. Organic, sustainable cuisine that recovers and gives life to old traditional recipes of the island.

Miquel Calent, the well-known Majorcan chef, is in charge at CUIT. And he constantly has one thing in mind: giving you a gourmet-experience overlooking the most beautiful city in the Mediterranean.

That’s why every one of his dishes are prepared with such talent, passion and incredible elegance. Rather sooner than later you will see that CUIT is a place for you to enjoy the whole experience from beginning to end.

It was Miquel’s passion and long-term experience which led us to have him running CUIT. As a part of Nakar Hotel we just wanted it to be as special as the whole Nakar-experience and it had to fit our most important motto which is ‘take care of you’.

CUIT is a place to relax, to enjoy, to let loose of all daily worries and give in for a unique meal in an unbeatable setting. For breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner you will feel the Nakar philosophy and Majorcan roots taking over.

PALMA GUIDE – WALKING ROUTES STARTING FROM PALMA
Staying in Palma stands for many things: a lively cultural scene, fun restaurants, a thriving shopping spree waiting to happen, impressive architecture… you name it! There’s no city in the world like Palma.

And during the colder months (which in Mallorca translates into 17-degree weather and a shining winter sun) one of every visitor’s favourite activities is walking in and around the city.

So, why don’t you join us today to explore the best walking routes starting from Palma? We’re positive this blog post will come in handy whenever you decide to visit the capital city of the Balearic Islands and make the most out of every minute.

Ready to walk around a little bit and discover the many wonders of the city? We’ll be pleased to take you on a little walking tour to discover some of the best spots around Palma.

WALKING FROM PALMA TO PORTIXOL
Are you a sea-lover like we are? Then you will absolutely love this route we’re about to recommend. Palma’s promenade known as ‘Paseo Marítimo’ provides a great scenario to walk by the sea and soak up the city’s vibes at the same time you reconnect with yourself and the calm breeze of the Mediterranean.

This promenade connects the city centre with the former fishermen village of Portixol, a trendy spot filled with seafront cafés and restaurants. From Nakar Hotel to Portixol you will be walking around 4 kilometres by the seashore. Once you’ve arrived at Portixol there’s a lot to do. Click here and discover our recommendations on what to do and where to eat while you’re there.

WALKING FROM PALMA TO THE BELLVER CASTLE
Another walking route (which is actually more of a hike than just a nice walk) you should try out while staying in Palma is the one that leads you to the Bellver castle. The Bellver castle was built between 1300 and 1311 and is one of the most impressive buildings in Mallorca.

It is formed with a perfect round shape and inside the middle is a courtyard and around lays four big towers. After being a royal residence, the castle was converted into a prison. Nowadays the castle located about three kilometres away from the city centre is a museum and one of the city’s most popular landmarks.

Being located atop of a hill it offers spectacular views of the city and its bay. If you want to reach it by foot you will first walk through the city until you get to the short hiking route to get there. Our team at the front desk will be happy to give you some assistance for this 35 to 45-minute walk!

WALKING TOUR TO DISCOVER PALMA’S LANDMARKS
Last, but not least, if there’s one thing you can always do by foot when staying at Nakar Hotel, it’s walking around the city and discovering the many hidden treasures it has to offer.

Of course, you will probably have the cathedral, ‘La Seu’ and the Almudaina Palace on your list, but there’s more! A few weeks ago we shared this walking tour through Palma’s Old Town with you. Find some ideas here! And if you’re into architecture, you can also have a look at this selection of beautiful buildings you need to see while in town.

We hope this guide to walk around the city and enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle has been helpful and we’re looking forward to hearing back from you if you try some of these walking routes!

PALMA’S ARCHITECTURE – WHAT TO SEE
We know you’ve heard this before, but Palma is actually a Mediterranean gem. This city manages to win over hundreds of hearts every year due to its spectacular location, lovely weather, breathtaking natural scenery, lively shopping scene, fun gastronomic offer and impressive architecture. Today we’d like to focus on the latter, giving you a glimpse of what to expect to see when walking around the city centre.

With many influences and centuries of history, you will be able to discover Palma’s true essence by walking through the cobbled streets of the city’s Old Town and entering impressive buildings that have been converted into museums, cafés or shops. Today we wanted to give you a guide to see some of the most beautiful buildings in Palma.

LA SEU, PALMA’S CATHEDRAL
There’s no other way to start a post about Palma’s architecture than talking about Palma’s cathedral, La Seu. This Gothic masterpieces’ construction began in 1229 during the reign of King James II, but it wasn’t completed until 1601.

In the 17th and 18th century baroque elements such as altarpieces, paintings and sculptures were added to the interior of the cathedral. Gaudí also worked on the cathedral in the period from 1904 to 1914.

One of the highlights of our beautiful cathedral are its seven rose windows and 83 windows which have led to its nickname ‘the cathedral of light’. With an impressive location, right in front of the sea, ‘La Seu’ is Mallorca’s most famous landmark.

Adjacent to La Seu you will find another historic landmark: the ‘Palau de la Almudaina’, a stunning medieval palace which is now the official residence of the King of Spain when he visits Mallorca.

LA LONJA
On previous occasions we’ve talked about the neighbourhood of ‘La Lonja’, one of the liveliest spots in the city to go for dinner or drinks. This trendy neighbourhood takes its name from the most famous building in the area: ‘La Lonja’.

The building which was once a major mercantile exchange and meeting place in the city was built between 1420 and 1452 by famous architect Guillem Sagrera.

Featuring a ribbed vault ceiling divided into twelve parts and Gothic-style arch windows, its castle-like turrets, delicate stonemasonry and stunning courtyard make the building a unique example of Gothic architecture. The ‘Angel Custodio’ visible above the main entrance was made by the architect himself and holds a band reading ‘Defender of Merchandise’.

MODERNIST & ART NOUVEAU IN PALMA
Did you know that Gaudí spent ten years on the island, which is why there’s such a strong Modernist influence on the island? The ‘Casasayas’ building and ‘Pensión Menorquina’, for example, are Modernist-Art Nouveau style buildings with symmetrical and dynamic elements designed simultaneously in 1908 and 1909, and are separated by a narrow street called Calle de Santacília.

Opposite these buildings your eyes will quickly be drawn to the ‘Gran Hotel’ Palma’s first luxury hotel which opened in 1903. Designed by Catalan architect Lluis Domenech I Montaner, the modern Art Nouveau style landmark was the first of its kind in the city, sparking a wave of new buildings with this attractive and innovative architecture.

Today it is home to ‘Fundacio La Caixa’, a gallery with a permanent exhibition from Catalan artist Herman Anglada-Camarasa as well as a rotation of temporary exhibitions and tons of activities for children and adults.

‘Can Forteza Rey’ is another example of the Modernist Art Nouveau movement in Palma. The spectacular decoration of the façade with their intricate broken tile mosaics (trencadís) is continued into the interior of the five-storey building, which was originally intended as an apartment block.

We hope this guide to discover some of Palma’s architectural gems will help you to make the most out of your stay in Palma. Of course, we will be pleased to have you staying at Nakar Hotel. Let us take care of you!

A LOCAL’S GUIDE TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE ISLAND
Mallorca may only be 100km wide and 75km long, but we always like to think of it as its own microcosm of awesomeness, beauty, culture, lifestyle and nature. The geography of Mallorca is made up of many different regions – six to be precise. And each region stamps its own signature on the collective identity of this island.

Most of you already know a lot about Palma and the surrounding towns and villages in the Northwest, such as Valldemossa and Deià. But today, we are shining the spotlight on a different area: The Northeast.

Encompassing the famous towns of Manacor, Artá and Capdepera, amongst others, the scenic beaches of Son Serra de Marina and Cala Torta, the Llevant Natural Park and many other beautiful hotspots, it truly is one of Mallorca’s most authentic and spectacular corners. So, without further ado, let’s embark on our adventure to this refuge of natural and cultural wonder!

TOWNS & VILLAGES IN MALLORCA’S NORTHEAST
We thought we’d start with a short introduction to one of our favorite towns in the Northeast: Artá. There’s a lot to love about this original town, which has remained true to itself in every possible way. During your visit, explore the Santuari de Sant Salvador, an ancient church constructed during the 14th century and marvel at the stunning pieces of artwork inside.

We also recommend a stroll around the Almudaina d’Artá, an Islamic fort from where you can drink in the sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Next on the list we have Capdepera, a treasure trove of history overlooking the sea. There’s something so magical about the 14th century Capdepera castle, which once served as lookout point to guard the town against pirate attacks.

BEACHES IN THE NORTHEAST OF MALLORCA
If you asked us to pick out the best beaches on the island, our list would definitely include many of the beaches and coves in the Northeast. The sandy havens here abound with natural beauty. One of them is Cala Torta, an unspoilt white sand beach nestled at the foot of the Llevant Natural Park.

For an action-packed day out try the beach by Son Serra de Marina, where you will find surfers, walkers and paddleboarders making the most of the weather and the waves. Families with young kids will love Cala Mesquida, where the waters glimmer a deep turquoise beneath the sun.

Very few places in the Med can compete with the Northeast of Mallorca when it comes to natural beauty. That’s because the landscape here is so unique in its composition.

Front and centre is the Sierra Llevant mountain range, a rugged collection of green peaks nestled between the crystalline waters and the agricultural fields. Hiking, cycling, horseback riding…there are so many different ways to enjoy nature in this corner of the island.

A WALK THROUGH PALMA’S OLD TOWN
To those of us who live and breathe Palma every day, we know how special this city truly is. We love its authenticity, its vibrancy, its people, its food, its architecture…we could literally go on like this forever!

And as far as locations in the city go, you can’t get any more central than Nakar Hotel. Of course, our street has a cool name – ‘Jaime III’ – where you will find a selection of world-class shops, restaurants, bars and cafés, all leading to the popular Passeig del Born and Palma’s Old Town.

More than anything though, it serves as the ideal springboard for those wanderers who wish to lose themselves in an afternoon of meandering. It’s for you that we designed our self-guided ‘Nakar’ walking tour. So, slip into your best trainers – flips flops will do too, if you’re willing to be super adventurous – and let’s get going!

Our tour starts at the Nakar Hotel (surprise!). From there, we turn right and head down Jaime III, until we hang another right onto Passeig del Born. Next, we do a bit of bobbing and weaving until we hit the first cultural highlight on our tour: the famous cathedral ‘La Seu’.

A masterpiece of gothic architecture, it’s probably one of the most impressive buildings we have ever seen – and that’s saying a lot! A few small steps from there and you will find another cultural gem, the Almudaina Palace, with its impressive arches and beautiful façade.

Once we’ve soaked up all the glorious culture, we move on to another fun part: shopping! We make our way back up onto Passeig del Born, where we pop our heads into Rialto Living, a super chique fashion, design and lifestyle store with lots of unique treats.

For a look at some amazing handmade pottery, we continue up the street to the Saint Feliu coach houses, which are home to a number of boutique stores, including Paparkone. Marvel at Roberto’s incredible works of pottery art. We sure do!

Now that we’ve had our fill of shopping – although we’re not sure there is even such a thing – we make our way to one of the best neighbourhoods in the city: Santa Catalina. There, we stroll around the popular Mercat de Santa Catalina, where we sample traditional food and whatever else your heart desires. There’s plenty of stores to go around.

You can also choose from several restaurants serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner all day, every day. Once we’re done, it’s only an 8 min walk back to the hotel, where you can kick off your shoes, slip into your bikini or swim trunks and take a dip in the pool before winding down on one of our sunbeds for the day.

And that’s our tour! Short, sweet, but filled with a ton of delights. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

SUMMER IN MALLORCA
There’s no such thing as a Mediterranean summer without a sunset overlooking the sea. If you agree, this is the spot you need to know about: Na Foradada is a distinctive and emblematic rock formation that juts out of the Northwest coastline, being one of the most famous, but also the most stunning viewpoints on the island. It is known to give you the most beautiful sunset on the island.

There’s a bar to have a cold beer while falling in love with the Majorcan sundowner right there. Our recommendation is after sunset you head over to the close-by village of Deià, specifically ‘Sa Fonda’, a fun restaurant, serving ‘pa amb oli’ and other local food and known for throwing great parties in the summer. Live music and fun times, here we go!

Mallorca is home to over 260 beaches and coves that are the living picture of Mediterranean nature: white sand, rocky cliffs, crystal clear waters… you’re definitely up for some inspiring beauty when on the island! Of course we needed to add a day at the beach as one of our summer musts, right?

There’s a long list for you to choose from, but some of our favorite beaches and coves are: Sa Rapita, Cala Llombards and Es Caragol. All of them are located in Mallorca’s Southeast and guarantee to be the Mediterranean dream come true.

Are you looking for an authentic Majorcan experience? The llaüt is the typical Mallorcan boat: a little wooden boat that has been used by fishermen and locals for decades and is now one of those things that reminds us of our traditions and roots.

Sailing on a llaüt is without a doubt a unique experience, and an amazing way of getting to know the true Mallorca. You can rent a llaüt for the day and explore the island from the sea, which is an absolute gift to your senses.

Last, but not least, you cannot wrap up a summer holiday without spending the day at a beach club. There are many beach clubs you can go to when visiting Mallorca and all of them have different atmospheres and vibes, but we really love Grand Folies close to the Port of Andratx.

It is located in a little, secluded cove and you will be able to go from the pool to the sea, while soaking up the sun and getting served at your sunbed or Bali bed. Book a table for lunch and enjoy their first-class local cuisine!
