Charming chateau hotel near Fontainebleau , 70 km south of Paris and in the heart of a 40 hectare park, the Chateau de Bourron is a magnificent private property in “brick and stone” style, flanked by two small pavilions which have been built at the beginning of the 17th century on the site of an old feudal fortress.

Listed as a Historic Monument , surrounded by a whitewater moat, this elegant residence welcomes you all year round to experience the life of a French castle!

A CASTLE MARKED BY MEDIEVAL TIMES
Bourron was then a fortress “enclosed by walls and surrounded by water ditches”The plan of the current castle is that imposed by the presence of the moat. The west and east pavilions take over the old guardhouses.

The still massive side of the foundations of the castle is built on the foundations of the old fortress. Around the historical uncertainty on the date of the start of the work, various architectural elements can make us lean towards a construction at the end of the 16th century.

The plan of the castle is based on that of the medieval fortress without trying to innovate. The windows are thrown back in an awkward or archaic way towards the outside, leaving between them large empty spaces.

The geometry of the overlapping panels on the low pavilions is directly inspired by the courtyard of the commons of Fleury-en-Bière dating from 1555. Finally, other châteaux were built around Paris during the same period: Pontchartrain, Neuville,

The style is “brick and stone”, launched in 1528 by Gilles le Breton for the northern wing of the court of the white horse of Fontainebleau. The walls are in rubble from the forest of Bière, very porous they are covered with a plaster. to protect them.

The exposed angular stones, the foundations and the staircases are in more solid sandstone which come from the gorges of Apremont. The brick, as for it, has a purely ornamental and decorative role. Geometric patterns can be seen on the two pavilions, the small bridges and on the window frames.

In the ceremonial lounges on the ground floor, there is a view both on the southern perspective and that to the north. Visual and technical approval that allows a flood of light to enter the lounges.

As you walk around, you will notice the presence of pulleys on the west wing and on the east wing on the moat side. These were used to bring the cured meats and food directly into the kitchens (located on the garden level) by means of boats. Thus, the guests did not risk crossing the supplies.

THE PARK
The park of the castle of Bourron, closed by walls, deploys its 40 hectares of lawns and woods, in the extension of the forest of Fontainebleau.

It reveals a few surprises: hidden behind the little house, the romantic Neolithic spring called Source Saint-Sévère which gives rise to the canal; the statue of Ceres which closes the north parterre, that of Saint Joseph by Fernand Py under the trees and the house of d’Artagnan.

But the major axis of this French-style park remains the great perspective, leading to the south by the canal and the alleys of lime trees which gives the Château de Bourron all its grandeur. Site registered in the supplementary inventory since 1926 and classified since 1971 as a Historic Monument.

There are no archives remaining, they were destroyed during the revolution, however, we can trace the evolution of the park in 4 steps!

We abandon the walled gardens of medieval type in the 16th and 17th centuries for the organization of the park resolutely “French-style” at the end of the 17th century, piercing of the southern perspective canal, in the 19th century transformation of the park “English” and finally at the beginning of the 20th century century in 1930, Count Blaise de Montesquiou transformed the planning of the park into a French-style park with more than 500 feet of lime trees planted in the outlook, mole yews, boxwood cut in the shape of a shell.
